Leukapheresis

Leukapheresis is a process by which certain types of cells are separated from the blood and the remaining blood is returned to the body, through a continuous sterile process. The donation takes approximately 4 hours to complete. This study is designed to collect white cells from your blood which may allow medical researchers and scientists to use the information obtained from their research to better diagnose various diseases. Such information and discoveries may help the doctors to diagnose quicker and treat different diseases better in the future. If all of the procedures are completed you could be compensated up to $375 for your donation. Prior to donation you will be given the complete details of the sample intended to be collected and any other necessary instructions. Should you choose to participate you will also be asked to sign an informed consent which states that you understand the processes and procedures that will take place during the study. Most people will feel tired after the procedure and it is highly recommended that you have someone drive you home.

At least one week prior to the Leukapheresis procedure you should drink plenty of fluids to aid in the collection process. One day prior to the collection you should refrain from any caffeinated beverages. You will only be permitted to donate 6 times within a calendar year and will not be considered eligible if you have been in a research study or received an investigational drug within the past 30 days or have gone through plasma or blood donations more than 6 times in any given 12 months.
